Why we built AVIF.best

AVIF spread faster than everyday apps could support it. People were stuck with .avif files they could not open—and others needed a private way to encode PNG/WebP into AVIF for the web. We built both directions: convert AVIF out for compatibility, or encode into AVIF, privately in the browser.

We are independent enthusiasts of open media formats, not affiliated with the Alliance for Open Media. Our priority is reliable conversion and clear guidance on when to use AVIF versus JPG, PNG, or WebP.
